Everything you need to know about Travis Country.

History, location, amenities, schools, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. A practical guide written by a local who actually works this market.

    Austin's first environmentally planned neighborhood.
    01 / Origin

    Austin's first environmentally planned neighborhood.

Travis Country was established in 1972 and built starting in 1974 as Austin's first environmentally planned community. Streets were routed around the existing oak canopy rather than clearing it. Fifty years later, the result is a neighborhood that feels rooted, with mature trees that simply cannot be replicated in newer developments.

The architecture reflects three distinct phases: 1970s ranch homes in Trailwood Village, mid-1990s traditional in Village Park, and late-1990s contemporary in Travis Country Green. Roughly 1,500 homes total.

Travis Country sits in 78735, just inside the Loop 1 (MoPac) corridor in Southwest Austin, roughly seven miles from downtown. The Barton Creek Greenbelt forms the eastern edge, creating a natural boundary.

Downtown is about fifteen minutes off-peak. The airport is twenty. Access is easy in every direction without putting you in the middle of the action.

    Direct Barton Creek Greenbelt access.
    03 / The Greenbelt

    Direct Barton Creek Greenbelt access.

Travis Country has its own trailheads onto 7.25 miles of protected Barton Creek Greenbelt. You walk from many homes directly onto the trail system. Twin Falls, Sculpture Falls, Gus Fruh, and Hill of Life are all in reach.

For a lot of residents, this is the single biggest reason they bought here. It is also the single biggest lifestyle multiplier of living in 78735.

Two amenity centers. Eight tennis courts. Two pools.
    04 / Amenities

Two amenity centers. Eight tennis courts. Two pools.

The Travis Country Community Service Association (TCCA) operates two amenity centers, Hilltop and Blue Valley, with two pools, eight tennis courts total, basketball, playgrounds, and the 1.5-mile Sycamore Creek Nature Trail connecting them.

These are HOA amenities residents actually use. The pool runs swim team in summer. The courts host weekend round-robins. It is one of the things that makes the neighborhood feel like a neighborhood.
